Camelot Dogs

On second thought, lets not go to Camelot. It's a silly place.

One of these days I'm going to remember to update this site more often. But today is (probably) not that day! Until then you are just going to have to put up with random updates when I  feel like it. And today is one of those days!

So here is a Monty Python design for you. King Arthur and his band of adventurers off on a mission to retrieve the Holy Grail. They aren't really as cool as the guys from Pulp Fiction, but regardless I thought they would look pretty good in this classic movie poster pose. They certainly are off on a mission that goes horribly wrong and has unexpected consequences for everyone involved though.

It started out as a nice little sketch of Graham Chapman and now it's just silly.

As you know by now, Monty Python is one of my favourite shows and the Colonel is one of those classic characters that made the show great. I was trawling through some old time adverts and posters looking for some inspiration (as you do!) and I came across the Lord Kitchener recruitment poster. His incredibly humourless face just matched up perfectly with Graham's. I was quite surprised that no-one seemed to have done this before, but I'm not going to complain about that!

Useful information from Monty Python

This is (as it should be) a bit of a silly one. I don't really know what got me thinking about Monty Python but I always like the ridiculous, seemingly unconnected, in between bits. "How to recognise different trees from quite a long way away," is one of those bits that always makes me wonder where the Pythons' came up with it. Is there a book somewhere in the world with this title? Perhaps there is a whole series broken down into volumes covering all the major continents (except Antartica of course, it would be very empty)? Has anyone ever needed to identify a tree from quite a long way away?

The Fish Slapping Dance

The traditional British fish slapping dance. This ritual dates back many years and was on the verge of being forgotten. Then the celebrated filmmaker Monty Python recorded his documentary on the subject and the practice was reinvigorated. Now people all over the country can be found slapping their fellow man in the face with the biggest fish they can find.

The fish slapping dance is a Monty Python classic. The art of surrealist comedy distilled down to its barest essence in 15 seconds. Two men, three fish and a canal, this is humour at its best. So when I realised that nobody else seems to have tackled this particular scene through the medium of illustration, I knew that I would have to give it my best shot. So here is the result.
