Why Did it Have to be Snake?

You can find some unexpected things in ancient tombs.
Indiana Jones finds some unexpected puzzles in most of the tomb he explores, but none as dastardly as the 90's phone classic, Snake. He hates Snake.

Sometimes you get a pun stuck in your head and it just won't go away. In cases like that I always think its best to give in and just draw it. Sometimes the result can be a bit more fun than you thought. I imagine Indy would hate this game just as much as the creature. There's probably more reason to dislike the game thinking about it. Its just so frustrating! It never reaches a conclusion which always makes you want to play again. My finger slipped off the key, I got distracted at the wrong moment, there are a million reasons you failed and they all make you want to have one more go.

Anyway, if you love snake (and Indiana Jones) as much as I do, you might like this design hanging on your wall, or on your phone. Or something else. I don't know! Just check it out at Redbubble and Society6 or get all the info at the Doodle Dojo Store. Ripley & Hicks Exterminators

Ripley and Hicks, for when its not just another bug hunt.
If Ripley and Hicks had survived the journey home from LV426 I like to think they would have set up in business. After all they both had extensive experience of dealing with unwanted visitors. Hicks had certainly been on a few bug hunts before. And despite every paycheck being a fortune in the corps, I'm sure he would have preferred to work for himself after his latest experience of someone else being in command. Besides they always have the ultimate backup plan. Take off and nuke the whole site from orbit. Its the only way to be sure.

I wanted to make this one into a bit of an old fashioned logo. I'm beginning to think I have a bit of a thing for victorian style logo design, so it got out the pencil and started working on a nice chunky type treatment and it sort of struck me that the texture and pattern would be the thing to make this work properly. So a bit of H.R. Giger research later, I came up with some ideas of how to give it that extra-terrestrial edge that it needed.

This one is (surprisingly) available on Redbubble and Society6 right now with all the details available on the Doodle Dojo Store. Don't forget to stop by my Facebook page to keep up with my latest designs and sketches.

Strawberry Cornetto

Want anything from the shop?
Thought I would go back to a great movie for some inspiration this time. Shaun of the Dead is one of those great movies that really puts a new spin on a (sometimes) overdone genre. The way Shaun manages to not notice the zombie apocalypse until it literally stumbles into his living room is probably the same way I would work out what's happening. Very silly indeed. So here's Shaun and Ed getting ready to defend themselves from a zombie horde by topping up on frozen snacks.

I don't quite know how Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright managed to come up with the 'Three flavours cornetto triology' but I can't wait to see part three. I think I may have to try and get a Hot Fuzz doodle done before The World's End appears too.

You can probably guess already that this design is available on all sorts of cool stuff at Redbubble and Society6. Get to the Doodle Dojo Store for all the info.

Solo Smuggling

Captain Solo runs the best smuggling operation in the galaxy.
Captain Solo's Smuggling is the best in the galaxy. Ideal for those times when you need to avoid 'imperial entanglements' (that does cost you a little extra though). Time sensitive deliveries are a speciality, if you need to get stuff delivered in twelve parsecs or less, he's the man to trust.

I haven't done anything Star Wars related for a while so when I came up with an idea for making a logo for Solo Smuggling I thought I may as well go for it. I started out working on modern corporation style logos but as I carried on sketching it started to turn into something a bit more old fashioned and typographic. I got a bit carried away with the filigree patterning as well, which was fun to do once you get properly in the zone!

This one is available on light and dark backgrounds at Redbubble and Society6. All the details are at the Doodle Dojo Store.

The Three Trolls

The tastiest Dwarf in all of Middle Earth
With the Hobbit due in cinemas real soon now I started thinking about the story again. One of my favourite scenes is where the trolls, Tom, Bert and Bill, capture Bilbo and the dwarves and set about deciding the best way to eat them. They can't decide between roasting, boiling or squashing them. Thanks to a little help from Gandalf they keep arguing until the sun comes up and then they turn to stone. I thought I would try a little play on how things could have turned out without Gandalf around. So get yourself down to the Three Trolls for the very best in Roast, Boiled or Squashed Dwarf.

Available on Redbubble and Society6 on T-shirts, iPad cases and prints. Get all the tastiest details on the Doodle Dojo Store.

Chunky Puke Hoops

Chunk's Chunky Puke Hoops, the best way to start your day!
Chunk's confessions was one of my favourite parts of the Goonies. The bit where he tells the Fratelli's all about how he made some fake puke still makes me laugh now. There's a bit of a thing in the T-shirt world for making fake cereal packet designs as well, so while mulling these things over this design came at me. What would a cereal endorsed by Chunk be like? Well obviously it would have to be chunky, and if it looked like fake puke that would be even better. Real carrot chunks? Well they are always in there right? And there you have it, Chunk's Chunky Puke Hoops a healthy tasty breakfast.

Available at Redbubble and Society6 right now on T-shirts, stickers, iPhone cases, prints and posters. Check out the Doodle Dojo Site for all the info and links.

Bullet Time Bill

He is 'The One'
Do you believe that my being stronger or faster has anything to do with my muscles in this place? Do you think those are mushrooms eating now?

Bullet Bill is one of the (many) horrible, inexorable, really annoying enemies in Mario Bros. While you try and repeatedly dodge them, die and restart it makes you wonder if there is a better way. That's when it struck me that Neo had a much better way. If there is anyone who should be an equal to Neo when it comes to manipulating a computer simulated world, it really has to be Mario. He has been through just about every type of game you can think of by now. The plucky plumber really should have learned some ways to cheat the system. And while he's at it, you think he would get a better look going on!

Available from Redbubble and Society6 on all kinds of nice stuff. Check out the Doodle Dojo Store for more info.

Singin in the Rain

What a glorious feeling, I'm happy again!
Clockwork Orange again! Its one of those films that sticks with you forever, or at least it does with me. One of the most disturbing bits (out of a pretty wide choice of disturbing bits) is when Alex and his droogs raid the Home farm. The cheerful tune of Singin' in the Rain really helps to underline the horrible treatment being inflicted on the innocent couple.

So obviously I wanted to represent that disturbingness somehow. When I saw a poster for the stage musical of Singin' in the Rain, it was obvious that Alex needed to be inserted. Its great when you find an excuse to draw something pretty much just for the fun of it!

As usual you can find this design on T-shirts, Stickers, iPhone cases and more at Redbubble and Society6. And all the details can be found on the Doodle Dojo Store.

Self Preservation Society

Hang on lads, I've got a great idea!
I've finally managed to come up with an idea that isn't a science fiction design! This is (obviously!) based on the awesome British movie, the Italian Job. I'm sure you know the idea and what's happening in this scene. While doing some research for the coach colours I discovered that someone has worked out a way to rescue the gold. Seems a bit of a long winded way of going about it to me.

Anyway, as usual the design is now available on Redbubble and Society6 on a variety of cool items and all the details are on the Doodle Dojo Store.

Time to Bleed

Blain ain't got time to bleed. Until now.
Another classic sci-fi movie reference. Arnie managed to be in lots of great films but Jessie Ventura made a pretty big impact in this one too. Lugging around Ol' Painless and coming out with such wisdom as "ain't got time to bleed". Well in my imaginary scene, the time to bleed might be a lot sooner than he thinks.

This one was a bit of a pain to get done. Those leaves took an age! I got some good advice the composition though and stuck to it and now I'm pretty pleased with the finished result.

As always you can get yourself this on T-shirts, stickers and other stuff at Redbubble as well as prints, iphone cases and even more goodies at Society6. Full details on the Doodle Dojo Store.

Renew!

Enter the Carousel. This is the time of Renewal.
Its another one inspired by a classic sci-fi film. This time its Logan's Run. There were some great sci-fi films made way back in the 70s and they all seem to have soundtracks created by one man and a synthesizer. I've never quite figured out how that tradition started but I'm kind of glad it did. The bizarre, almost music stuff, really adds to the futuristic feeling in some movies and Logan's Run definitely counts as one of those.

The carousel is the ceremony where the people who have reached 30 are sent off to their deaths. And the rest of the crowd cheer them on their way as they float up and explode. How nice!

Prints, laptop skins and other goodies available on Society6 and Redbubble. Check the Doodle Dojo Store for all the info.

Battle Royale Class 3B Final Report

Battle Royale Class 3B Final Report
What do you do when you've finished watching Battle Royale? Well if you are me you start thinking 'that film was awesome, I want to make a design inspired by it!' Then of course you get carried away come up with an idea and start watching it again. Only this time you take notes on how everyone was killed and in what order and work up a nice poster based on the notes. So there it is, the final report of Class 3B, all 40 kills with the weapon that caused them.

Here's a little close up of the detail. I got carried away with the texture and stuff on this and had great fun getting it right. Not to mention the fun of watching the film again!

As usual this is available on all sorts of great stuff at Society6 and Redbubble. Get all the details over on the Doodle Dojo Store.

Devil's Tower Spaceport

Devil's Tower Spaceport Wyoming
There aren't very many natural landmarks as recognisable as Devil's Tower. I guess that's why it was used in Steven Spielberg's classic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I'm pretty sure that everybody has had a go at making their own mashed potato version while mumbling "I'm sure this is important somehow." When it was reused in the sci-fi tribute film Paul, its place in (fictional) space travel history was raised a little higher still. So I thought I'd make my own tribute. If you were visiting Earth in your brand new UFO for the first time what better place to start than there.

Get a print at Society6 or a T-shirt at Redbubble. Full details on the Doodle Dojo Store.

Santa Clara Takeaway

Santa Clara Takeaway, the best chinese in town!
One thing I never could stand about Santa Clara, all the damn vampires!

The 80's had some great movies and The Lost Boys was one of them. Utterly cool from beginning to end, Keifer Sutherland being mean before Jack Bauer was even thought of, the Frog Bros! Just plain awesome.

This idea has been hanging around the back of my head for a while and I thought I had best get it out into the world before too long. Personally I'm not a big fan of creepy crawlies so I can't think of much worse to find in your food than this. Except spiders. This is one of those things that sounds like a great idea until you have to spend a couple of hours drawing a box of maggots. Still, lesson learned for the future, no more maggots. Although I can't think of any more designs that would need them. Yet.

Head over to Society6 and Redbubble to get yourself a print on something cool and don't forget the Doodle Dojo Store for more info.

Horrible Weapons

Horrible weapons as used in some classic horror movies
Horror movies for me are all about the weapons. There are sharp ones, blunt ones and the more off the wall ones! So here is a selection of my favourites. If you had this little lot available I reckon you would be able to survive most zombie outbreaks without too much trouble.

Bonus points if you can name the films they come from too. In this case points don't win you prizes but you do get to be proud of your geekiness!

This is a slightly modified version of the design that I submitted to Threadless. Now that their 90 day period is over, you get to get your hands on it at the Doodle Dojo store instead. Click on through for more details.

In other exciting news (it is to me at least!) I have now started adding my doodles to Society6. So if you are in a helpful mood please feel free to take a look and click that promote button on anything that takes your fancy.

Disc Bootik Chart

Disc Bootik Chart from A Clockwork Orange
"Who you getten bratty, Goggly Gogol? Johnny Zhivago? The Heaven Seventeen?"

"What you got back home, little sister, to play your fuzzy warbles on? I bet you got little save pitiful portable picnic players. Come with Uncle and hear all proper. Hear angel trumpets and devil trombones. You are invited!"

I might have mentioned in passing that A Clockwork Orange is one of my favourite films. Well the Disk Bootik scene is one of my favourite bits of the film. I've always wondered what the bands and songs are on the chart, so with the help of a pause button and slow motion I figured it out. Sadly (for me) it just makes it even more interesting. What sort of band are Bread Bros? Is Jelly Rock a dance? Is any of it any good?

The Disc Bootik chart is now available on the Doodle Dojo Store as prints, t-shirts and iPhone cases.

Party on, Who?

Party on, Who?
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is one of my all time favourite films. And Doctor Who is one of my all time favourite TV shows, so when I started wondering what would happen if they met up it was fairly obvious that it would end up as some sort of picture! The TARDIS is well known for being slightly out of control, so its bound to turn up occasionally in places it shouldn't. The three future dudes manage to hide their surprise pretty well though I thought.

This one is also available on things to decorate yourself and your stuff. Head over to the Doodle Dojo Store to get more info.

Of course it will still be available through the Doodle Dojo Store afterwards.

Harry Tuttle - Heating Engineer

Harry "Archibald" Tuttle - Freelance Heating Engineer
Terry Gilliam's science fiction movie Brazil is one of those often overlooked gems of cinema. Its got a wonderful dark view of a future taken over by bureaucracy, red tape and complications. The people are scared into a life they don't really want by a fear of terrorism. But in the middle of all this comes a man who has ducked out of the world of forms and doing what you're told. A heating engineer called Harry Tuttle (played by Robert De Niro). He tells Sam, (the hero of the movie,) that he became a heating engineer for, "the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's trouble, a man alone."

I love the utterly surreal idea of an armed man busting into a house in order to fix the air conditioning without doing the paperwork. Reminds me of those soldiers that do the missions we never hear about, black ops. So what beter way of representing Harry than as the guy from Call of Duty.

Yes, this is also available on T-shirts, iPhone cases and stickers. Click on over to the Doodle Dojo store to find out more.

Ludovico Institute for Behaviour Modification

The Ludovico Institute for Behaviour Modification
A Clockwork Orange is an all time classic film. It somehow manages to make the utterly horrible Alex into a character you care about and feel sorry for, even though everything that happens is bought on by his own actions and behaviour. The main reason for that is when his humanity is stripped away through the use of the Ludovico Technique. So I thought I would make a logo for the Institute where it all happens. The only other institute I could think of was the Torchwood Institute from Doctor Who so I thought I should mash the two together and see what happened. Turned out real horrorshow.

This is now available on T-shirts and other stuff from Redbubble at the Doodle Dojo Store.
