Happy Valentines Day!

Sending a very special hug your way, look out!
Its Valentines Day! I may be a little late but I'm here. I did this design especially for the most loving time of the year. A time when everyone needs a hug. And nobody give a better hug than the facehuggers from Aliens. They can be a bit too tight and might leave you with a lump in your chest, but doesn't that just make them extra special?

Thanks for following my slightly odd ramblings and drawings, I love you all. Not in that way though, I just don't know you well enough for that!

As usual this one is available at Redbubble and Society6, all the details are on the Doodle Dojo Store. Sign up for my email newsletter and you can get special offers and all my latest designs delivered to your inbox. Its only once a month (ish) so you won't get spammed to death either.

Ood One Out

One of these Ood is doing his own thing, one of these Ood is not the same
Can you spot the Ood one out? Hold on, what was I talking about? Why is there an empty space? What are these pen marks doing all over my arm?

As you can see I am continuing on with my recent Doctor Who obsession. It was one of those moments, (not really 'eureka' but along those lines) when I realised that Ood is a very similar word to odd. From that realisation to thinking of an odd one out design with Ood (oods?) in it was just seconds. Then I obviously had to set about actually doing it, which took considerably longer.

I also got a bit carried away and decided to do one with a human dalek in it. Just because they look a bit similar to Ood in a funny sort of way.

The Silent version is available on Redbubble and Society6. So is the Dalek version (Redbubble and Society6) and all the details are on the Doodle Dojo Store (Dalek and Silent).

Dreamer in the Deep

Beware when Cthulu awakes.

That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.

Bit of a different one for you this time around. I like doodling monsters (don't we all!) and when I had this guy looking out from my sketchpad I knew I had to make something a bit more polished from it. Cthulu is one of those characters that is pretty loosely described, which allows you to go completely mad and draw pretty much whatever you like. So after a lot of scribbling and shading I managed to turn a simple tentacled dude into this rather fetching design. It was great fun just getting into all the little details and making sure all that hatching was working nicely.

If you would like a tasteful monster adorning your stuff you can get hold of it from Redbubble, Society6 and even Zazzle. All the details are on the Doodle Dojo Store.

Moustache Men for Movember

Moustache Men - an evolutionary relative of the wookies.
These are the mysterious moustache men. I doodled these for Creaturemag's Moustache Illustration Awards. The brief is nice and open, draw something moustache related. Success with these guys I think! I tried to cover the full gamut of moustache styles and colours. I figure they are probably about 6 inches tall and live in a very cold part of the world. Their extravagant facial hair could be used to attract females during the mating season and also protect them from the thorny bushes in their natural environment.

My entry is now up on Creaturemag for viewing along with a whole bunch of other awesome moustache related pictures, so take a look. The awards are in support of Movember which aims to raise awareness of men's health issues, so its in all for a good cause too. Not only that but all the illustrations will get published in an ebook at the end of the month, result!

Evil Cow

Evil Cow
This is one of my latest works of weirdness. I don't  really know why, does a cow need a reason to be evil beyond beef burgers? This is obviously a very rare carnivorous cow that has probably developed a taste for human flesh. I kind of like the expression of pure nastiness, and of course the hypnotic evil eyes as well. Sometimes I guess you just have to go with what pops into your head!

As usual the Evil cow is available on lots of products, including T-shirts, hoodies, badges and bags over on the Doodle Dojo Store.

Swamp Monster

Slimy Swamp Monster
My latest doodle is this scary, slimy swamp monster. I think the swamp monster is an underrated horror icon myself, so I thought I would give him a shot and see if I could improve his image a little. I'm quite pleased with the final result really. I wouldn't want him creeping up behind me on a dark night. Although you would have to imagine that creeping up quietly would be tricky for something that probably has webbed feet. Do fish based creatures often come out of the water looking for land based meat? Regardless he looks pretty mean and that is the way I wanted him so there you go. Hope you like him!

As usual he is available on a wide range of stuff including T-shirts, stickers and badges at the Doodle Dojo Store.

Snail Stampede on Creaturemag

Snail Stampede, run for your life!

I call this one Snail Stampede, for obvious reasons! Not really sure if snails can have a stampede though? There should be a proper word for a herd(?) of unstoppable snails. Kind of like a murder of crows, a cete of badgers or a flange of baboons. Anyway, I'm not sure what it is that the terrifying horde of snails is running from, but you do not want to cross their path. They will mow you down, without a second thought.

Anyway, after I finished doodling away, I submitted it to Creaturemag, the online art magazine, who have kindly accepted it and are now using my doodle as a banner on their site (thanks guys!) Its in rotation with some other great art so keep visiting the site every day and you'll spot it soon. There is plenty of other artwork and music to keep you occupied while you are there! Here it is in place if you don't get lucky enough to see it first time.

The Monster Hunter

The Monster Hunter
New work today!

This is the fearless monster hunter, hot on the trail of the fearsome monsters that are terrorising the local village. Will he ever find them? Probably not to be honest, they know what they're up to when it comes to avoiding people. Will the hunter get eaten? Again, most likely not, these guys are not really the terrorising types. But if you leave any cakes unguarded, you'll be forever wondering what happened to them. And the monsters will be getting a little fatter. I like to think of the hunter being similar to the guy from Jumanji, but with more bluster and less skill.

This is a pen drawing, scanned and coloured in Photoshop. Enjoy!

Little Blue Worried Monster

Little Blue Monster
New doodle today is the little blue monster. Could do with a better name really but that's what I've come up with so far! Added a bit of background on this one, mostly because I don't usually and its always good to do something different. Tried a new technique on the outlines as well to give them a little more variation. I'm quite pleased with the end result although he does look a little concerned for some reason.

Thought I would include a couple of my early sketches in this post too. First is the original pencil doodle that got me started. Looks a bit angry in this one and I didn't like the horns, but the face has potential, so I did a few more trying to get a better shape.

Then I started on a pen version. I do like getting a bit scribbly with pens and creating a bit of shape with my shading. Still not quite right though, head is a bit big but the face is now pretty much how I wanted it.

Then it was on to the Mac and do it properly. Give everything a good tweak to get it just right, and then post it up for you to have a look at. What do you think?

As usual you can find the little blue monster in the Doodle Dojo store on lots of different suff. Let me know if you think he belongs on something that I've missed out!

Frankenstein's Monster

Frankenstein's Monster back from the dead.
Frankenstein's monster has been a classic horror icon since the book first appeared in 1818. Written by an eighteen year old Mary Shelley he is probably the most recognisable horror monster of all. The creature was apparently created from parts of dead bodies, and not all of them human. The reactions of the people he met drove him to seek revenge on Victor Frankenstein, his creator, which is why he looks a bit on the grumpy side!

Of course this doodle isn't the most horrible version, I think he's quite cool. Definitely looks like he's out for revenge though!

You can get hold of him on some cool stuff at the Doodle Dojo store.
